PYLKKANEN / EZEQUIEL QUARTET

Finnish saxophone player Pekka Pylkkanen and Brazilian drummer Carlos Ezequiel joined forces and put together a new quartet, to present original compositions in a unique blend of contemporary jazz references.

From Helsinki, Finland, Pekka Pylkkanen is one of Scandinavia's most active jazz musicians. Leading his group Tube Factory or playing with big bands such as the UMO Jazz Orchestra, has toured all over the world since the 1990's, performing in China, Japan, Korea, Australia, USA, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, and Brazil. Pekka has been featured in over 300 concerts in the last few years, and released 3 CDs as a leader: "Pekka's Tube Factory" (1999), "Opaque" (2001), and "Listen!" (2008).

Carlos Ezequiel, Brazilian jazz drummer and producer, has performed in the U.S.A., Europe, Argentina, Peru, and all over Brazil. His first Cd, "Images", recorded in Boston in 2000, was nominated for the Latin Grammy 2002 as "Best Latin Jazz Album". With his group Sinequanon, has released 3 more albums: "Sinequanon" (2004), "Telescópio" (2006) and "Horizonte Artificial" (2008). As a sideman he has performed with American artists Kurt Rosenwinkel, Howard Levy and David Liebman, with Danish musicians Thomas Walbum and Jens Viggo Fjord, and with numerous Brazilian artists such as legendary bass player Sizão Machado and guitar player Nelson Faria.

Brasilian Nights live at Malbec wine bar Tango y Vinos

Han man ikke hørt Brasilian Nights har man en oplevelse til gode. Gruppen spiller brazilianske rytmer, med et autentisk medrivende beat, som emmer af energi, liv og alt andet end stilstand.

Lyden af fløjte og guitar sætter en helt speciel stemning, der leder tanken hen på de efterhånden klassiske indspilninger med Jobim, Stan Getz og Cannonball Adderley`s Bossa Sextet.

Brasilian nights tager lytteren med på en rejse i stemninger og billeder igennem mesterlige standards af blandt andre Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joâo Donato og Carlos Lyra, Teco Cardoso, Lea Freire m.fl.

Startede ud som trommeslager allerede i 50'erne med en stor kærlighed for cool og bebob. Igennem de sidste 10 år har han spillet Latinjazz, Bossa Nova og Samba- Siden 80'erne har han lade sig forføre af fløjten. Har spillet med mange kendte ind - og udenlanske kunstnere rundt omkring i Europa og på stort set alle danske klubber og festivaler. Nogle af de musikere han har arbejdet med er blandt andre: Lasse Gullin, Brew More, Hank Wall, Atli Bjørn, Bent Jædig, Tomas Franck, Jesper Thilo, Ted Curson, Ben Besiakov, Lars Clemmen, Jan Zum Vorde, Doug Raney, Romano Mussolino, og Frank Grasso.

Joel Illerhag

studerer på Rytmiske Musikkonservatorium. Han har arbejdet som sideman i forskellige konstellationer med solister som eksempelvis Tomas Franck og Jens Winther.

Afonso Correa

Født i Rio, Brasilien. Studier på Conservatorio de Musica and Instituto Villa Lobos. Har spillet og indspillet med Luiz Melodia, Sa Guarabira, Elsa Soares, Joao Donato, Joao de Aquino og Jorge Amada.

Bosiddende i Europa siden 1987. Har de seneste år spillet med Dom um Romano, Mads Vinding, Jesper Lundgaard, Thomas Clausen Brazilian Quartet, Silvana Malta/Bo Stief og Tresafinado. Stilarten er brasiliansk swing med farverige jazzvariationer, der afslører beundring og respekt for brasiliansk sambarrytme og dets skaber, Edison Machado.

These gents will be playing some interesting topswinging original composition mixed with standards, seasoned with grooving moves and funky tones. A kind of Bonarda wines, with that mineral and earthy taste which in Argentina gives that powerfull wine to get sexed up with!

All this historical event will occur in The Argentinean Winebar Tango y Vinos, so my friend, there will be plenty of action in bottles packed with the nasty juices from home. Argentinean wines, in the local way, here in Denmark.
